It can't be emphasized enough the importance of achieving a solid compass calibration when looking to achieve accurate OBJECT locations while using the laser range finder kits. Make sure you are familiar with the proper calibration procedures found in the 500SE-M Camera Quick Setup Guide.

The most accurate way to ensure an accurate calibration is to compare the camera's heading on the LCD to a separate handheld magnetic compass like the military issued Lensatic Compass. Take care in properly aligning the camera to the handheld magnetic compass to assure an accurate relationship.

We recommend drawing perpendicular reference lines on a 1-square foot flat board (wood, cardboard or other non-ferrous material) and orienting the camera and compass to share the same resultant heading as in the image below.

Calibrate the camera's compass following the advised procedures and then check the results against the test board setup. Multiple calibrations may be required to achieve the desired heading accuracy. The 3D magnetic compass aboard the 500SE-M is accurate to within +/- 3 degrees which is suitable for enhancing situational awareness but certainly not for targeting needs.
