PhotoGIS Is Almost Here...
Carlsbad, Calif. – Geo Tactical Solutions is in the final stages of development for its new photo mapping and management software—PhotoGIS. PhotoGIS, planned to be released in early first quarter 2012, will allow users to easily map, organize, export and manage images taken with GPS-enabled digital cameras while also providing unique capabilities designed to enhance and streamline the photo-capture workflow for various military, federal and commercial organizations.
“By offering a simple to use, yet powerful software solution along with our GPS-enabled cameras and modules, we are able to deliver a complete end-to-end photo-capture, mapping and reporting solution to our customers that greatly improves workflow efficiencies,” explained Todd Lushinsky, Sales and Support Manager at Geo Tactical Solutions.
One interesting feature of PhotoGIS is its QR code generator for pre-field data collection. The user enters project or mission related information saved as ‘memos’ and the software generates a QR code for the camera to scan. This ‘memo’ information, once in the camera’s memory, will then be attached to each recorded photograph. The ‘memos’ attached to each digital image file are later used by the program to organize, display and populate standardized reports according to operation ID, photographer’s name, operation type, and so on.
When photos are taken with a GPS-enabled camera, PhotoGIS will automatically plot the images in a map viewer based on their GPS coordinates. For images that do not contain spatial information, the user can manually drag an image to an approximate location on a map using satellite imagery as a reference. If images contain spatial information about objects within the photograph, the PhotoGIS map viewer will automatically plot the object and photographer (i.e. the camera) locations on the map. An arrow connects photographer location with object location showing the distance and direction from the photographer to the object. Object location can be obtained using one of GTS’ G700SE-M or G700SE-f GPS-enabled digital cameras coupled with a laser range finder. For further geographic analysis, users can export image files into a variety of formats suitable for commonly used mapping applications such as Google Earth, ArcGIS and FalconView.
PhotoGIS also offers image markup and automated reporting capabilities. The user can drag and drop attribute information onto each image in addition to adding notes and simple vector graphics. After images have been imported and edited, the program can automatically populate report templates with the images, GPS location, Zulu date and time, ‘memos’, and any additional notes about the photographs. Reports may be exported to Word, Power Point, PDF and other common document formats. All images and reports are stored in a relational database for maintaining data integrity and allowing for centralized sharing and collaboration.
“PhotoGIS was developed as a workflow solution focused on simplifying the preparation, collection, analysis and dissemination of photographic intelligence for organizations to easily manage and share that information for internal and external use,” stated Mr. Lushinsky. “Some real world applications that can surely benefit from using PhotoGIS, along with our GPS cameras and GPS modules, include disaster and emergency response, utility asset management, natural resource management, land use planning, law enforcement, border surveillance and security, disaster insurance claims, and a wide range of military ISR applications.” Mr. Lushinsky concluded.

What is PhotoGIS?

PhotoGIS Navigation Screen
The options available from the PhotoGIS home navigation screen were designed to be as simple and user-friendly as possible. Everything is conveniently broken down into four categories: Setup - Processing - Reporting/Exporting - Administration. This allows you to easily locate and complete each step as you move along your workflow.

QR Code and Barcode Generator
After creating 'memos' with the "Create Memo" option from the home screen, you can simply click on "Create Barcode" to generate a QR or Bar code which is instantly ready to be scanned by your Ricoh G700SE camera (or similar digital camera that supports memos). After scanning the code, you're ready to capture photos in the field and each photograph will automatically contain the memo data you entered during setup.
Who is PhotoGIS for?

Simsol® Software and Geo Tactical Solutions Announce Partnership to Deliver Photo Streamlining Solution
CARLSBAD, Calif., May 27, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Simsol ® (a.k.a. Simultaneous Solutions, Inc.) -- a leader in insurance claims software, announced a partnership with Geo Tactical Solutions, Inc. -- the leader in solutions-based intelligent-photo management hardware to deliver a complete end-to-end photo capture solution streamlined to meet the insurance industry's unique workflow demands.
The photo capture solution, based around Simsol's software and Geo Tactical Solutions' hardware offerings, enables claims adjusters to virtually eliminate all time spent processing and integrating photographs during claims based workflows.
The solution allows an adjuster to easily pre-load specific claims information into the Ricoh G700SE-f digital camera and capture enriched claims images in the field every time they press the shutter button. Once in the field, the adjuster simply selects the appropriate claim within the camera's menu and then captures the images for that claim. Every image is embedded with the selected individual claim's information by the press of a finger. Once back in the office, the adjuster simply uploads the day's images into the Simsol software which in turn automatically places the enriched photographs into the appropriate claims. Photo integration has never been easier.
"Simsol has successfully integrated with Ricoh to provide a seamless connection between its digital cameras and our adjusting software. Each photo is automatically imported from the camera into the correct Simsol claim file. Every photo contains the picture's GPS location and claim file information. This information is printed right on the photos!" stated Dan Sutliff, Director of Training at Simsol.
This process improvement will save countless hours per day for claims adjusters thereby allowing for improved efficiency, increased productivity and elimination of human errors relating to image association. All in all, the solution allows for an increase in error-free claims and overall claims processing time by streamlining a traditionally cumbersome process.
"Geo Tactical Solutions is pleased to partner with Simsol to deliver our expertise in the intelligent-photo capture market to the insurance claims industry. We look forward to providing Simsol customers a tool that not only eliminates painful hours of photo matching, but also in looking ahead and developing future solutions as technology and the insurance industry evolves," says Matt Kidd, President of Geo Tactical Solutions, Inc.
The photo streamlining hardware solution is available from Geo Tactical Solutions with its enriched image capabilities being incorporated in the latest release of Simsol's claims software, slated to be released in early June 2011.For any questions regarding the partnership, or the overall solution, please contact Geo Tactical Solutions at 1-800-846-6585 or by e-mailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
